The wandering preacher Rasputin is summoned to the Tsar’s court to heal the gravely ill youngest son of the Tsar. He succeeds - the Tsarina is overjoyed and grateful, and Rasputin is honored with various privileges at court. His credo: “We can only attain salvation through repentance. How can one repent if one has not sinned before? So when God sends us temptation, it is our duty to succumb to it.”
